Client meetings! Todd and I nailed yesterday's meeting, and the couple booked immediately, spending £3k. The things they told us about why they liked us (and what they didn't like about other photographers) were really interesting and helpful, so I thought I'd share. These are all things they mentioned to us in the meeting and in the email afterwards:
- My email replies matched the tone on my website, and were personal and friendly - they'd had a lot of "I'm available, here's my price" replies from other photographers.
- My actual personality matched my website - this was a biggie for them, as they'd discovered a lot of photographers say they're a certain type of person but they're nothing like it in real life, eg saying they're fun and kooky when they're quiet and reserved (which is perfect for the right couples - no need to be someone you're not).
- We gave them ideas for their wedding they hadn't even thought of, eg crisps instead of canapes (!). As a photographer you pick up all sorts of knowledge about timelines, suppliers etc - sharing it with couples is helpful and inspiring for them, and makes you look knowledgable and experienced.
- I showed them an album and just talked about the wedding and the couple in the photos - there was no hard sell. They said it made them imagine what it would feel like to chat to family over their physical album.
- We barely even talked about photos, we were just shooting the shit for a couple of hours and got on really well - so by the end they knew we'd fit in at their wedding, know them as people, care about their story and not just be another supplier. This was super important to them, they made that very clear!
In summary, be yourself with everything you do, and genuinely take an interest in them. On the flip side, if they're not your people, don't take the booking!
If you haven't signed up to the Bag the Bookings course, do it now! It's all about turning your website into an enquiry machine (it even has a bonus ghostbuster playbook)
