Short answer: no.
Long answer: it’s just not what you think it is anymore.
When people say blogging is dead, what they actually mean is:
“I posted blogs before and got nothing from them”
And fair enough. If you’re treating blogging like a 2015 diary entry: “Emma & Josh’s Wedding”, then yes… that version of blogging is dead.
But the version that actually works right now is one of the most underused tools you’ve got.
Why People Think Blogging Is Dead
Because they’re doing it wrong.
Most photographers:
- Post a gallery
- Add a short paragraph
- Stick the couple’s names in the title
- Never touch it again
- Wonder why they get no enquiries from it
That’s not a strategy. That’s an archive.
And Google (and now AI) doesn’t care about your archive, it cares about useful, detailed, searchable content.
What Blogging Actually Is Now
Think of blog posts as:
👉 SEO landing pages
👉 Shareable stories
👉 Multi-use content assets
Not a diary.
A good wedding blog post should:
- Tell a story the couple wants to share
- Position you as the go-to for that venue/style
- Be detailed enough to show up in search and AI summaries
Because here’s the shift most people are missing:
AI search is rewarding depth.
The more detailed, helpful, and specific your content is, the more likely it is to get pulled into those AI-generated answers at the top of Google.
That means:
- Timeline breakdowns
- Lighting conditions
- Real advice about the venue
- What actually happened during the day
Not just “it was such a beautiful wedding”.
The Bit Everyone Overlooks: Couples Will Share It
This is where blogging wins over Instagram.
A well-written post:
- Feels personal
- Tells their story properly
- Makes them look amazing
So they share it.
To:
- friends
- family
- other engaged couples
That’s organic reach you don’t have to fight an algorithm for.
And you can double-dip:
- Turn it into Instagram captions
- Pull out Reels content
- Collab post with the couple
Pages vs Posts
Blog Posts (Pros & Cons)
Pros:
- Easy to keep adding fresh content
- Great for SEO growth over time
- Feed into blog modules on your homepage
Cons:
- Usually limited design flexibility
- Can look repetitive if your theme is basic
Pages (Pros & Cons)
Pros:
- Fully custom design
- Better for high-converting “hero” content
- Ideal for key venues you want to rank for
Cons:
- Not as easy to scale quickly
- Don’t automatically update your blog feed
The Smart Approach
Use both.
- Blog posts → volume + consistency
- Pages → high-priority venues you want to dominate
SEO Tips Most Photographers Get Wrong
Let’s fix a few big ones:
1. Stop putting couples’ names in your URL
Bad:/emma-and-josh-wedding
Good:/pangdean-barn-wedding-photography
No one is searching Emma and Josh.
They are searching venues.
2. Go back and optimise old posts
This is low effort, high return.
Take an old post and:
- Rewrite the title around the venue
- Add useful sections (timeline, tips, lighting)
- Expand the text so it’s actually valuable
3. Avoid keyword cannibalisation
If you’ve got:
- 5 posts all trying to rank for the same venue
Google won’t know which one to show → so it shows none.
Instead:
- Make one main, strong post/page per venue
- Link other weddings at that venue back to it
4. Write for AI, not just Google
This is the big one.
AI pulls from content that:
- Clearly answers questions
- Goes into detail
- Is structured well
So instead of:
“Such a dreamy day…”
Write:
- Best ceremony locations at the venue
- Ideal timings for light
- Real advice couples can use
So… Is Blogging Dead?
No.
Lazy blogging is dead.
Strategic blogging is thriving.
If you treat your blog like:
- a marketing tool
- a storytelling platform
- and an SEO engine
…it will quietly bring you enquiries while everyone else is stuck refreshing Instagram.
