Tired of getting lots of traffic but no enquiries? Or finding that when people do get in touch, the responses are short and lacklustre and you don't know what to say in reply? The culprit might just be your contact form.
So, how can you overhaul it and convince your dream couples to get in touch?
1. Put a killer testimonial at the top
The contact page is the final decision-making point in your couples' journey, and the point where their worries will come to the surface, so nip that in the bud with a kick-ass testimonial that makes it clear why they NEED to book you. Don't forget to make sure the spelling and grammar are perfect!
2. Have a good preamble
Now you've piqued your couples' interest, take a paragraph or two to tell them you're excited about their enquiry, and chuck a joke or on-brand GIF in for extra points. Compare these two approaches:
"Thank you for checking out my website, I hope you like my work. When you get in touch, I'll get back to you in 24 hours".
"I'm so excited to hear all about your wedding day - don't leave a detail out! Can't wait to chat to you!"
Which photographer would you rather get in touch with?
3. An amazing photo will reassure your couples that you're an awesome photographer
Your homepage slideshow rightly gets all the love and attention, but don't neglect your contact page - pick a cracking hero image that reinforces everything you've said in words, and put it front and centre.
4. Be specific to one type of photography
If your website is juggling multiple genres, have landing pages for each with their own contact form so you can keep the questions on-topic. That way you won't be asking maternity shoot clients when their wedding day is!
5. Use required fields tactically
This is your chance to sort the wheat from the chaff - if finding out what song will get people up and moving at a wedding is key to knowing your couple are party people that you're going to vibe with, make that question mandatory.
6. Pack the personality in
We're going to assume the rest of your site is full of your personality, whether that's dad jokes or reassuring tones - now make sure that tone of voice extends to the contact form too. Replace the standard "message" field with something more conversational. Not only will this help put across your message, it starts a conversation - one that appeals to and is relevant to your ideal client.
7. Don't make it too long
Having extolled the virtues of being chatty, less is more, so don't make the form so painfully long that no one can be bothered to fill it in. But don't forget that all-important "how did you find me" question!
8. Have a killer thank you page
If you're still using the default "thanks for your message" message, then set up a thank you page that re-directs when your couple hits Send, suggesting some useful blog posts to read, plus a note about when they can expect to hear from you, and maybe even a photo of you, or your dog, or a silly gif (stay on message for your ideal client here!). If you can also auto send a copy of their enquiry to them then all the better - they can search their emails to find you again. BONUS: Retarget Facebook ads to anyone who's been to the thank you page - stay on their feed and in their heads!
9. Make sure it's mobile-friendly
Completed all of the above steps but not checked to make sure it works on your phone? Get on it! Also make sure you include your email and phone number incase they don't want to fill in a form.
