Todd and I started going to Crossfit a few weeks ago. This was Todd's first time going to exercise classes, and he was pretty apprehensive about being the least experienced there. Everyone else had been there longer than us and we felt really new and inexperienced and basically a bit rubbish compared to everyone else.
Then last night we discovered one of the members joined only two weeks before us. We also found out his girlfriend couldn't do a pull up (neither can I, even after two years of trying!). There's nothing wrong with not being able to do a pull up - it's just that we'd assumed everyone else but us could do them. It was so small, but we both instantly felt so much better.
We'd assumed everyone was way better and more experienced than us, but actually we're all the same.
We love talking shop, so we immediately compared it to our work. Wedding photographers always assume everyone else is doing better than them. Social media posts, a good website, higher prices than us. It gives us the impression we're not as good as them, not as successful, not as experienced. But it's not true. We can only compare ourselves to our past selves and our potential future.
So stop looking around at what everyone else is doing and worrying we're not doing as well as our peers. Everyone is on a different journey, so just follow your own path and own it.
Here's a photo of me and Todd at Crossfit and below at a wedding - doing our own thing and not worrying about what everyone else is doing!
